In a bid to ensure the renovation of dilapidated hostel facilities, the authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University has begun to cut trees around the halls of residence to aid the construction of fences.
Cutting of trees ongoing in Adekunle Fajuyi hall.

As confirmed by this media outfit, some trees along Akintola hostel walk way and New bukka area of the university are being chain-sawed.

OAU KILONSHELE reported how the management of the institution, on Wednesday, ordered the students out of the halls of residence in order to continue the renovation that has been embarked upon since the end of last session.

In February, OAU KILONSHELE  revealed the plans of the university to renovate the halls of residence after an exclusive report on the poor state of Eight undergraduate hostels.

Speaking with Mr. Ade Adeshina, the Acting Warden of Adekunle Fajuyi hall, he noted that the trees hindered the construction of fences and the school has no option than to bring them down.

He added that the painting materials needed for the painting of the halls will be supplied on Monday.
"Even the buckets of paint will arrive today," Mr. Adeshina told OAU KILONSHELE.

When quizzed whether the renovation exercise will affect the resumption date, he stated that the  resumption date, September 30, is still intact.

"It's possible that if we can't finish the renovation exercise before the resumption date, we'll continue even when students resume."

It should be recalled that the school authorities gave three male hostels; Awolowo hall, Education Trust Fund (ETF) hall, Angola hall and two female hostels; Mozambique hall, Alumni hostel, a face-lift before the resumption day in May.
