In compliance to the nation-wide industrial action declared bythe Academic Staff Union of universities (ASUU) on Sunday, the Obafemi Awolowo University chapter has told students to go home.

The chapter President, Adeola Egbedokun, declared this in a press conference held in Auditorium 1 area of the university on Tuesday.

According to the official, "ASUU has declared strike on OAU campus and that is what I know."

"We love our students and they should go home because we don't want them to be victims of whatever action that will accompany the strike."

OAU KILONSHELE reported how they workers embarked on strike as the Federal government failed to honour the FGN-ASUU Memorandum of Action signed in 2012, 2013 and 2017.

It should be recalled that the ASUU national President, Biodun Ogunyemi, stated that the strike is a total one, which implies that no teaching, no examination or all other academic activities.

"The National Strike Coordinating Committee (NSCS) urges all members to remain steadfast and resolute."

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Congress of Nigerian universities Academics (CONUA), Niyi Sumonu earlier told newsmen that members of CONUA are not part of the indefinite industrial action.

"We were not approached on the issue, so we cannot be part of the strike. Our members still respect statutory duties."
